Lake Wylie is part of the Catawba River and it host a wide variety of environments. The northern section is much more like a river and as you move south turns into a lake. The wildlife on this river is always enjoyable to watch and learn about.
Lake James is absolutely beautiful. it sits right next to the southern entrance to Linville gorge wilderness and has a lowly populate shoreline revealing breath taking views all around. The water here is clearer than most places.
Lake Ocoee is one of those places that will make you want to come back again and again. Mostly created from the flooding of rivers by the TVA, this lake host a number a unique features, like trees in the middle of the lake.
The French Broad is a huge stretch of river that flows through the heart of Asheville NC. It has sections that include mild flows through the Biltmore and other sections that have some whitewater features.
Lake Norman is another lake in the Catawba River chain and is by far the largest. It has many different coves and inlets to explore. It is home to Lake Norman State Park and many other local parks.
Mountain Island lake is located between Wylie and Norman. It has some very unique features and is home to the historical Latta Plantation. This lakes most northern section is home to Cowen's Ford Wildlife Refuge.
