Advanced SUP Lesson Plan

 Taking your Stand Up Paddleboard skills to the next level can make the sport more fun and more rewarding. This Advanced SUP Lesson is intended to teach students different progressions using mechanics and things they have learned from the intro to SUP lesson. These new techniques will allow you to do more with your paddleboard and explore different environments. It is our goal to make the process comfortable and at pace with your paddling goals. Below you will find a lesson plan for the Advanced SUP class:


The Advanced SUP Class is broken into 2 segments, Land and Water exercises. The Land exercises will focus on Land based execution of stroke mechanics and a brief summation of terminology. The Water segment will focus on in water exercises and test to confirm student understanding. This lesson builds off of previous paddle strokes learned in the Intro to SUP class. It is highly recommended that the student has prior paddling experience prior to taking this class.


LAND

In this section we will be very briefly review the terminology that will be used during the lesson and cover more advanced stroke mechanics and progressions. During this segment of the lesson the new paddle strokes will be done on land before entering the water and practicing them there.  (30 minutes)

  2. The Paddle

  2. Paddling strokes

    2. Draw, Cross-nose Draw
    3. 180 Maneuver

    5. Canted Forward Stroke

  3. Returning to the launching area
    1. Returning to prone

    3. Offloading from the SUP
  4. Emergency procedures

    Water

    In this section we will be simulating various strokes and mechanics in a dynamic water environment through the use of certain exercises. (30 minutes)
